Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.
— George S. Patton
Hello Everyone,
Recently I received a message telling me about a very useful and inspiring website: http://www.westutter.org/
“I wanted to tell you about a non-profit, self-help organization called the National Stuttering Association (NSA). They offer chapter meetings, workshops and annual conferences for people who stutter and SLP’s. They have at least 600 people who stutter attend annual conferences. They have had speakers such as Vice President Joe Biden, John Stossel, Annie Glenn and Adrian Peterson (Chicago Bears). The NSA offers several programs for kids and teens who stutter, CEU’s and workshops.”
If you are struggling with moments of stuttering and feel like accessing your world is limited because talking is hard, I encourage you to make the decision that stuttering does not define you nor your potential. Stuttering is something that happens that maybe you feel you cannot always control. Well don’t give it so much power! Step on it on your way up! If you visit the website I have posted above, you will see how many successful people have used resiliency and self-confidence to soar far beyond what they thought was theirs to have.
Vice President Joe Biden was not born a vice president. He was not a vice president in school nor for the majority of his life. Wouldn’t you agree that he achieved his accomplishments by saying “I can” much more than saying “I can’t”?
If you dream without fear, you will begin to live without fear. When you live without fear, you will communicate without fear. Do not let fear rob you of all the good things your life should bring you – if you keep walking in the right direction. Take a step and then another.
Please do not struggle alone. Connect with a Speech-Language Pathologist, read through websites, become informed and empowered. Then one day, maybe you too will become that essential, life-changing role model to someone who needs hope.
