This summer, we at TinyEYE celebrated our 1000th day as a registered business. I can tell you the secret strategy.
I still remember day #1 – co founder Greg and I decided on a name and our vision. That was a breeze. I was so excited and ready to make it happen. On the other hand, I was frustrated with Greg because he was being too logical. He said, “Now I know this is exciting, but if you want this to work you have to remember the rules.
Rule #1: There will be highs. There will be lows.
Rule #2: You must never ever quit during a low.
I shrugged him off and looked forward to the next day when we would start our business plan and market research. Enter days #2 through # 1000. Greg’s two rules became so tattered and torn.
If you have tried growing a business, you know that each day brings it own challenges, sacrifices, and sometimes even heartaches. We constantly took turns saying, “Check the rules and call me in the morning.” Realizing that we could not quit during a low – we decided to keep pushing forward. It was the rules that mandated that we remain relentless in our pursuit. It was our vision that inspired us:
Collaborate to build a circle of care around every community in need of speech therapy services.
The way I see it – if we gave up our personal rules, we would be giving up on our vision. I have seen the faces of children we have reached – they are worth every minute of those 1000 days.
Believe in your vision – respect your personal rules – make it happen. It starts with day #1, a vision, and a couple of tattered rules.
