Teacher Tricks for Enriching Classroom Communication

“I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.”

~ Robert McCloskey

Hi Everyone,

I am pleased to offer a resource for Speech-Language Pathologists to share with teachers.

TinyEYE’s Online Speech-Language Pathologists have started off the school year with great enthusiasm. Primarily, it feels wonderful to reconnect with students and teachers. Likewise, it feels energizing to start the year with TinyEYE’s most advanced version of our online speech therapy platform. Now entering our sixth year of serving, our virtual office is overloaded with games and features that force the question, “Who has more fun in speech therapy…the student or the SLP?”

Beyond our virtual therapy room, TinyEYE strives to build capacity in schools. Have you ever struggled to unlock a door with a key that does not fit, when a helpful person comes along and opens it on the first try? Who knew! Speech-Language Pathologists have special tricks that can help a child unlock the door to learning, socializing, and succeeding. Sometimes, we simply need to try the key in a different way, from a new perspective.

I have attached a copy of Challenges and Strategies for Classroom Success. Inside, you will find a summary of common challenges that teachers report in the classroom. In addition, you will find common solutions. This is a place to start. If you are a teacher who is planning to refer a child for an assessment, this form will also help you articulate the concern as well as strategies you have already tried. If you are a Speech-Language Pathologist, this handout may come in handy as you strive to extend your reach through classrooms.
