My heart beats twice. Once for me and once for my children.
~Marnee
Hi Everyone,
My daughter is a dream come true and my son is an answered prayer. I have all I need in life with all these arms wrapped around me. I cherish being their mom.
My mom helped my dreams come true and she heard my prayers. She gave me all I needed in life with her arms wrapped around me. I cherish being her daughter.
In between all the blessings, there is everything else. To summarize today: A two-year old tantrum in the store and potty training mishap; a grade five school project and after school activities; a cup of coffee reheating in the microwave waiting for me to have a moment to re-energize….I never did drink that!
My patience, resilience, and unbreakable joy for motherhood were inherited from my mother. Still, some days I pray for strength! What would she do on a day like today? I have mom’s recipe – I have my mom’s great eight:
- She looked at me with bright eyes when I talked to her.
- She involved me in her life – she involved herself in mine.
- She was consistent with her teachings and her rules. We felt loved even in discipline. She said NO at the right times. Even as teenagers running out the door we heard, “Have fun, be good, be careful!”.
- She modeled integrity, diligence, and problem solving. We learned that “set-backs” happen and the most important part is making a plan to move forward….make it a “project”.
- She made events and routines special. My mom sang us songs and taught us finger rhymes. She stayed up late at night decorating our birthday cakes and sewing our dancing costumes (Note to self: It is just as fun to buy a package of just-add-water muffin mix). We regularly had “picnics” on the living room floor with apple juice and popcorn. Every night, we took turns making a “surprise” for our bedtime snack.
- She taught us to have a dream, and then do something about it. She was right there with us. She practiced our school speeches with us and guided us on our projects and activities. She surrounded us with positive experiences and was so patient as we learned. As we became older, she encouraged us to be active participants in our own lives. At the very least, it would “look good on a resume”.
- She showed us that our value lies within our heart and our character. Every material thing around us could float away and we would have all we need within us.
- She showed me time and time again that I am worthy, I am capable, I am loved. Wow. I need these words today as much as I did as a child.
Tonight I kissed goodnight a freckled nosed angel and chubby cheeked prince. In mere hours, the busy day will start all over again. My eyes will open to a sweet face staring at me saying, “Mom, I wake up!” And I will sing to myself:
If I was born just to look at you, just to be with you, sing you lullabies
If I woke up just to hold your hand, be your biggest fan, kiss away your cries
Then let me breath for eternity, my beautiful surprise
This is the sweetest breath I’ll ever take, my beautiful surprise.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
All the best to you,
